The
moment you enter the showroom
of the Magic Sleeper Mattress Factory
on Fourth Street in Pottstown,
you feel as though you are walking back in time.
The building, with its huge open beams forged at Bethlehem Steel, was once occupied by such noted businesses as Jacobs Aircraft, Mrs. Smith's Pies, and a prominent dress manufacturer. It is a fitting atmosphere for Magic Sleeper, which has been making its own history for over 30 years.
From the sales floor you can hear mattress covers being guided through sewing machines. If you peek through the warehouse doorway, you can actually watch the mattresses being made. There is a simple and unhurried quality to the setting where workers still put together mattresses by hand.
You can see the quality
of the construction, as each mattress is individually crafted with the padding
and foam wrapped around the top edge of the mattress and fastened with special
clasps to every single spring coil. This process has been abandoned by the
big manufacturers to cut costs. It does take more time and costs more to
make - but the result is the most comfortable, longest lasting mattress
you can own. This kind of workmanship has always been Magic Sleeper's trademark.
Magic Sleeper Mattress Factory was founded in 1979 by Antonio Santos (1939-2000).
His idea was to make a quality product at an affordable price and to put
an emphasis on customer service. Needless to say, over a quarter century
later, his idea worked. It is that tremendous value proposition that Antonio
created that keeps customers coming back and recommending the mattresses
to friends and family. Today, Antonio's legacy is 
perpetuated
by his three children that continue to uphold the integrity and high standards
that have made Magic Sleeper so popular. "My father always insisted
on using the best materials," says Marco Santos, President, "because
that's the key to a long lasting mattress." He also stated that Magic
Sleeper continues to move forward with advancements in mattress design and
comfort while maintaining his father's original formula for quality construction.
He has designed a latex foam and visco-elastic (memory foam) mattress -
both at factory direct prices.
Since its inception, Magic
Sleeper has never sold its mattresses anywhere but in its own outlet stores.
They are by no means parochial, having shipped products to customers throughout
the US and the world. In fact, Magic Sleeper has the remarkable distinction
of being voted the Best Mattress Retailer in the greater Pottstown area
each year for over 15 years. They also were awarded Bedding Retailer of
the Year by the Tri-State Home Furnishing Association. In addition to its
own brand, Magic Sleeper carries famous brand name bedding, electric adjustable
beds, custom size mattresses and a complete line of bedroom furniture and
accessories. They will even build a mattress to your specifications and
design - now that is customer service!
Shopping
at Magic Sleeper is a true education. The friendly sales staff takes the
time to explain and demonstrate the mattress making process. And during
your visit to the Pottstown showroom/factory, you will notice large prints
of the founder, Antonio Santos, and have an opportunity to experience a
piece of Pottstown's past, present, and history in the making.
